Sarus Crane Conservation and Development Project

Protecting Our Climate

The Company’s operations in Vietnam are working with the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand (ZPOT) and the People’s Committee of Dong Thap Province to carry out the “Sarus Crane Conservation and Development Project.” This project follows a 10-year plan (2022–2032) at Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap Province to help restore biodiversity in the region.

The Eastern Sarus Crane is listed as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List. The project aims to bring the cranes back to their natural habitat, restore the surrounding environment, rebalance the ecosystem, and establish long-term, sustainable conservation practices.

Reintroduction
Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo transferred and released six Eastern Sarus Cranes into their natural habitat at Tram Chim National Park, Vietnam. This step supports the recovery of this threatened crane population.
Global Partnership
The project is built on multi-stakeholder cooperation, bringing together government agencies, private-sector partners, and conservation experts from both Thailand and Vietnam. Together, they aim to create a cross-border conservation network that supports long-term protection of the species.
Symbol of Friendship
Mr. Soopakij Chearavanont, Chairman of the Company, named one of the cranes “Ban Mit.” The name means “Friend” and “Friendship” in both Thai and Vietnamese. It reflects the project’s spirit of “bringing the cranes back to a friend’s home” and highlights the importance of humans and nature living in harmony.

The project contributes to the growth of the wild Eastern Sarus Crane population, promotes environmental awareness, and reinforces Thailand–Vietnam relations through concrete sustainability initiatives.
